Watch These Adorable Dogs Catch Waves at the Biggest Surf Dog Competition in the U.S.

The competition begins, and surfers rush towards the ocean with their boards under their arm—oh, and a dog under the other arm. The pups are wearing life jackets and their ears are perked up, some smile with their tongues hanging out of their mouths. For every dog on a surfboard there is a waterproof GoPro catching the action. At the Surf City Surf Dog Competition, “Unleashed,” pups from across the country—and world—compete for the bragging rights of being the best surfer on four paws (all participants get a medal, however). The Petco-sponsored event, which took place in September, raises money for animal charities and encourages pet adoption. The surfing canines are judged on their confidence and balance based on the duration of the ride, any tricks performed on the board, and are categorized by their size. But the biggest satisfaction seems to be the epic shake-off when they climb out of the water onto the beach.
